Villagers took away parts of killed tiger

Villagers  killed a Royal Bengal tiger in eastern Assam’s Jorhat district on Thursday, and took away the animal’s tail, legs and nails.. The animal unleashed a reign of terror in Bangmara village on Thursday morning, leading to a face-off with local residents.

It later sneaked into a nearby paddy field and remained untraceable for a while. When a man called Ibrahim Ali went to his paddy field, the tiger attacked him, injuring him critically. But Ali managed to muster enough strength and resolve to hit back with a spear which he was carrying at the animal. After repeated hits, the tiger collapsed.

Later on, hearing Ali’s screams, people reached the spot and launched a fresh attack on the animal with sticks, machetes and spears. Ali sustained grievous injuries on his head and was hospitalised. His condition is critical. The locals took away the animal’s tail, legs and nails. Forest officials were at the site when the tiger was being attacked but could do little. The officials suspect the tiger had strayed out of the Kaziranga National Park, walked along the banks of the Brahmaputra and reached the village.
