Thimphu: Bhutan has agreed to work with Bangladesh to explore its potential of hydropower generation and export it to Bangladesh, a senior official of the Ministry of Commence of Bangladesh said. “Bhutan has expressed very positive attitude and agreed today to export hydropower to our country,” joint secretary of the Commerce Ministry M Munir Chowdhury has said after a meeting with a Bhutanese delegation in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
The two-day commerce secretary-level meeting between Bangladesh and Bhutan will end on Wednesday evening.
The meeting began in the city on Tuesday afternoon to discuss regional connectivity, transit, tariff and non-tariff barriers and hydroelectricity. The meeting is being held at Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI).
Senior Secretary of the Commerce Ministry Hedayetullah Al Mamoon is leading a 17-member Bangladesh delegation to the meeting while Economic Affairs Secretary of Bhutan Dasho Yeshi Wangdi a 10-member Bhutanese team, according to a news agency.
